BEN BLANC at LOUIS BOSTON April 21 – August 21 2011
Artist and designer Ben Blanc presents new work in a solo exhibition at Louis Boston, opening April 21. Blanc continues his exploration of complex steel structures with new work featuring elephant, a full-scale sculpture of a female African elephant.
New pieces including Meteor, a 6 foot diameter faceted sphere consisting of an abundance of crisscrossing steel lines and Sulphur Diamond, a 100x enlarged 1 carat diamond will also debut. Functional objects including Graphite Light and Writing Desk will be featured along side Blanc’s sculptural work, creating an ongoing conversation between the work of fine art and design.
“My work has continually explored these two sometimes disparate and yet often related disciplines through an artistic insistence on translating materials, techniques and ideas into universal explorations.” says Blanc.
Blanc uses steel, lines, and geometric forms to translate ideas into physical space, creating complex structures that exist to challenge concepts of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional space. Moments are flattened, while space is expanded and transformed. What results are works that demand a visual engagement that employs the viewers own physical presence.
Ben Blanc received his MFA in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2004. He is currently working and living in Providence, RI. Ben’s new collection of work will be on view April 21st – August 21st at Louis 60 Northern Avenue, Boston, MA 02210.
